Equipment used for recording

LIVE broadcasts

For YouTube Live, my son Jimbo uses the following for his I Live Life channel – https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHrch8jQl61HeC9Q1eo62Gg – you can see the neat things that OBS can do for a live broadcast. He goes live every Sunday night at 8 pm US ET.

Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) – https://obsproject.com/download (free)

Logitech C922 – https://amzn.to/2CX7C29 – the Logitech is great even in low light.

Lapel microphone https://amzn.to/2R7LULN – comes with 79” extension cable

There is a web version that is VERY similar to OBS that is very easy to use – https://www.golightstream.com/ Lightstream Studio

For pre-recorded / edited videos, I use the following

Software
Video editing: Camtasia

Camtasia comes with Tech Fuse that allows you to send video to Camtasia from your phone.

You can do audio enhancement as well within Camtasia. If you need something more than what Camtasia offers for audio, check out Audacity (Windows & Mac) at https://www.audacityteam.org/ (free – look for a fork of the open-source that is NOT from Muse Group – click here to see article regarding privacy concerns)

Cameras

Google Pixel smartphone has a great camera – a good smartphone is sufficient – but use a tripod with a holder and an external lapel microphone.

Set to HD / 1080 and 30 fps. If you have an Android phone, use Open Camera (free on Google Play store) and set to use an external microphone. I use the lapel microphone when using a green screen and smartphone.

For desktop video / live: Logitech C922 https://amzn.to/2CX7C29 – the Logitech is great even in low light.
